Why I chose to explore Philadelphia's beer scene
Why did I decide to explore this part of Philadelphia? It was a tough choice. This city has so much to offer from world-class cuisine, to great fashion, to esteemed history. But I had to go with beer. It sounds odd but it's become sort of a hobby for me. Since I was young, my dad was always into craft beer and home brewing. It's a trend that hooked me too, ever since I was legally allowed to drink. I enjoy exploring new beer styles and supporting local breweries who often make much better beer than any of the large, commercialized outfits (think Budweiser or Miller).
You see, beer isn't something just to drink to have a good time. It can be as complex as wine, and as snobby as scotch. Philadelphia and beer go hand in hand. Philadelphians were drinking in taverns, like the famous one over in Old City, hundreds of years ago. Yards has a line of beers named after the founders of our country, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Philly's own Benjamin Franklin.
Philadelphia has a plethora of little, local breweries that have garnered attention for making some amazing beer. Throughout this adventure, I can't wait to share some with you.
